Occupational therapists help people across their lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Some examples of occupations include personal hygiene, dressing, eating, transferring and mobility, meal preparation, shopping, housework, managing medications etc. Occupational therapists also have extensive knowledge and training in the management and treatment of conditions and injuries of the upper extremity (hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder). Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes. Occupational therapists work directly with patient and family members to develop individualized goals during an initial evaluation. A customized intervention and plan of care is then established with the aim of improving the patient’s ability to perform daily activities and reach their goals. Outcome evaluations are then performed at scheduled intervals to measure progress, modify treatment plans, and ensure that goals are being met. At Southern Physical Therapy Clinic, our occupational therapists are dedicated to treating our patient in an individualized, comprehensive, and caring manner with the ultimate goal of regaining mobility, improving function, and minimizing pain to return to productive living. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
